I. Objective. Multi and single pitch climbing around the South Lake Tahoe area in California. We will camp at Lover’s Leap campground, very close to the cliff pictured below, but a short drive will take us to Phantom Spires, and there are other crags in the area where we can climb. Lover’s Leap is mostly 3-pitch climbs, and Phantom Spires and other areas are single pitch.
II. Expedition Itinerary: June 4 – 11, 2020
Day 1 (Thursday, 06/04): Fly to Reno, NV, stay at the Comfort Inn
Day 2 (Friday, 06/05): Drive to South Lake Tahoe, set up at Lover’s Leap Campground
Day 2 – 6 (Friday-Wednesday): Climb at Lover’s Leap, Phantom Spires, and possibly other crags in the South Lake Tahoe area
Day 6 (Wednesday, 06/10): Drive back to Reno and stay at the Comfort Inn
Day 7 (Thursday, 06/11): Fly home
III. Expedition Participants (6)
Ideally, with 6 participants we will identify another climber who is capable of leading at least grade 5.7 trad multi-pitch climbs, in order to get more climbing in (with only 2 leaders, there’s more wait time to get everyone up a route).
• Laura Sykes – Leader – Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if interested in joining the trip!
• Jon Sykes – Co-Leader
Must attend 2 team climbing days before the trip.
Must be able to climb 5.8 comfortably
Experience following multi-pitch trad climbs preferred
IV. Group Gear to be supplied by SSMC.
Tents for 7
3 Jet Boil (or equivalent) stoves
(6) 70m Double climbing ropes
V. Group Climbs.
There will be two group climbing days that we will arrange with trip participants. We will arrange them as weather permits, and they are mandatory so that we can gauge participant’s ability before we get there, and be sure they have fundamental skills (belaying, rappelling w/backup system, cleaning gear, and assessing potential leaders).
VI. Estimated Cost.
$474 per person, plus airfare.
