What
An independent mountaineering and adventure club small enough, and humble enough, to truly be run by its members. We climb wherever enough of our members want to travel: The Cascades, Mexico, South America, Canada, and the Himalayas.
Folks who love the outdoors and the challenge of getting places not often visited. Our trips are led by experienced volunteer members, not paid professional guides. Many trips involve training sessions and planning meetings – when you go with Summit Sensations you are a team member, not a client! Our base of operations is New Hampshire; most of our members are from the Northeast, although a few have strayed to further points.
Where
Most of the major expeditions have been to the North American Ranges – Predominantly the Cascades but also the Canadian Rockies, Wind Rivers, Colorado 14ers, Wrangell-St. Elias, the Cordillera Occidental in Ecuador, and also Mexico. Future trips will include Kilimanjaro and technical peaks in Bolivia, such as Illimani. We recently went to Nepal on a club organized Everest Base Camp Trek. Local, one-day activities occur in Northern New England. But ultimately, where we go is up to the members; so why not become one?
How
Summit sensations started when 9 friends decided to climb MT Baker without the expense or inconvenience of going with a guide service. Collectively, we had the experience and gear needed. We selected leaders, did some training, pooled our group gear and safely and successfully climbed the mountain on our schedule and at a fraction of the costs of a guided climb. The club continues in the same tradition. At an annual meeting the by-laws are amended, the upcoming schedule of activities is approved, major club purchases reviewed and a Board of Directors is elected to take care of the day to day business of the club. 2019 was another great year for the club with expeditions to Mt. Shuksan via the Fisher Chimneys, Colorado Crestones, Tuolumne Meadows, and various workshops and local climbs. Join us and become part of the next adventure!
